The substantial weakening of the Rand against the US Dollar led to widespread gains in the South African agricultural commodity markets this week.
The significant gains were on the maize market, which increased by an average 9% compared to the previous week’s levels. Trailing behind maize was wheat which increased by an average 7% from the previous week. The marginal increases were on oilseeds market, an average 3% from the previous week.
For fruits and vegetables, the week has again been fairly volatile with daily stock levels underpinning the market. Lastly, the SAFEX beef market saw a fairly quiet week, with prices unchanged from the previous one.
